A little something on understanding Accumulators.
Firstly, as I am sure you will agree a fabulous profile to be. They can be almost anything they choose to be.
They are some very complex understandings about Accumulators but I will run through some of the basics. As with any profile there are good & bad points with strengths, challenges and struggles. Obviously one is looking at a blend between two energies, each accumulator will have different proportion and may exhibit different aspects of their Tempo & Steel energy in a variety of ways. This is what gives the wide range of personalities and behaviours one sees in the grouping.
Tempo energy first. This is about the ability to assimilate a vast amount of information very quickly. By assimilate I mean the ability to digest and work something out; coming to a conclusion that has come from putting together information. The final assimilation may or may not be true but it will be very convincing (if done well). You can see this manifesting in lawyers or barristers who can create a new reality in a court room. Similarly sales people will re arrange the facts to suit the situation. The saving grace for the tempo energy is their desire to nourish or be nourished. So they will tend to be very considerate and kind, wanting to look after others, hence all the customer service side of the profile. The challenge is that they can sometimes do too much for others and either exhaust themselves or by doing too much for others, stop the other person learning their lessons through failure.
The Steel energy within the Accumulator is an interesting combination with the Tempo. The Steel energy will tend to give them a sense that something is missing. This will manifest in the Accumulators ability to constantly assess situations and spot what others have missed. In the mid 90’s my PA who was an Accumulator spotted when she had come back from holiday that I had failed to specify that I needed chairs for a big talk I was doing. Attention to detail, spotting what hasn’t been done! A challenge is that this Steel energy can give the sense that things have never been done quite well enough. So Accumulators can drive themselves quite hard and over deliver, burning themselves out on the behalf of others. Over the last 25 years I am always acutely aware that my accumulators employees on some level need protecting from giving too much, so I tend to performance manage them more than other profile, not because they need it to perform but I need them not to over perform and burn out , almost duty of care.
Accumulators have the ability to take the most complex, break it down and come up with clearest and simplest of solutions. No waste, really efficient. So you will see them doing well in a business over the long term. They may or may not like numbers but they will like efficiency and numbers are sometime a way to measure that. If I have a complex set of ideas that I am struggling with and want someone to help pull it together I will often turn to an Accumulator, I will often do this in preference to a dealmaker because although they have the same tempo assimilation I will often get a clearer truth with less desire to please me from an Accumulator. The outcome will still be put forward in a sympathetic way but I know there will be clarity through the Steels energy. There some issues about intergration here, but that is another story...
Anyway there are tons more about the accumulator profile but hope that is of help and you recognise just the immense value you bring to the party.
